Stm Virtual Com Port Driver

When connected I should see a virtual COM port device in the Window's Device Manager. I have installed the STM32 Virtual COM Port Driver by running the VCPV1.4.0Setup.exe. My system is Windows 7, 32 bit. The problem is when I connect the Discovery board the Windows says: No driver found. But, it provides at least another really useful feature: a Virtual COM port. When you install the ST-Link drivers, a new device appears in your hardware devices list: the ST-Link Virtual COM port. If you use a Linux PC or a Mac, you'll find a new terminal in the /dev directory. Usually, this device is named something similar to tty.usbmodemXXXX.

  • Driver worked well in Win 7 until I updated to Win 10. I didn't do a clean install of Windows 10, just an upgrade from 7 to 10. Plugged in a fresh Pico and saw the red light flash. I opened up the web IDE tried the normal way to connect and it said Connect failed. I tried a restart but same thing. So I checked Device manager and noticed:

  • Have you tried just re-installing the drivers? I know people are using it with Windows 10 and don't have problems, so maybe the drivers got disabled in the upgrade process?

  • @Gordon Strange, everything seems to be functioning correctly now. My USB cable is most likely not functioning properly.

  • @Gordon I spoke to soon. I switch cables and USB ports and I am still having the same issue. This will also be my second time reinstalling the drivers.

    EDIT
    Oops I forgot one crucial step: Unzip the file, run the executable, and then go to C:Program Files (x86)STMicroelectronicsSoftwareVirtual comport driver in Windows Explorer and double-click either dpinst_amd64.exe for 64 bit systems, or dpinst_x86.exe for 32 bit.

    Everything appears to be functioning properly again :-)

  • Great! glad you got it sorted - the drivers are pretty strange like that... I'm tempted to just distribute them outside the ZIP file :)

  • Красавчик! е*ался при настройке на виндовс xp, по финалу взлетело. Зашел в папку с установленным драйвером и дважды клацнул C:Program FilesSTMicroelectronicsSoftwareVirtual COM Port Driverdpinst_x86

  • Don't worry about formatting, just type in the text and we'll take care of making sense of it. We will auto-convert links, and if you put asterisks around words we will make them bold.

    Tips:

    • Create headers by underlining text with or ----
    • To *italicise* text put one asterisk each side of the word
    • To **bold** text put two asterisks each side of the word
    • Embed images by entering:
      ![](https://www.google.co.uk/images/srpr/logo4w.png)
      That's the hard one: exclamation, square brackets and then the URL to the image in brackets.
    • * Create lists by starting lines with asterisks
    • 1. Create numbered lists by starting lines with a number and a dot
    • > Quote text by starting lines with >
    • Mention another user by @username
    • For syntax highlighting, surround the code block with three backticks:
      ```
      Your code goes here
      ```
      Just like Github, a blank line must precede a code block.
    • If you upload more than 5 files we will display all attachments as thumbnails.
